What Is The Best Time Of Year To Visit Turkey?

Turkey is a fascinating country that can be visited at any time of year, but if you are travelling to the popular Aegean and Mediterranean coastline, it’s probably best to book your holiday in late spring or early autumn.

The tourism season in these areas runs between May and October, but the peak season is July to mid-September. It can get very crowded and incredibly hot at the height of summer, so May-June and the end of September-October are probably the best times to visit.

What can you expect from the climate?

As Turkey is such a massive country, the climate varies from one area to the next. In general, the coastal resorts have a comfortable and warm temperature. However, areas such as Istanbul have a similar climate to that of the UK or New York. The eastern and central regions of Turkey suffer from extreme heat in the summer to below-freezing in the winter.

If you do visit the country during the winter season, you’ll probably have most of the Aegean and Mediterranean area to yourself, but it’s not recommended due to the high air pollution and wet weather. Instead, take a trip up to Istanbul or even go to see the Mevlana Festival in Konya.

How do you feel about relaxing on a gorgeous sandy beach, or hitting a few balls on the golf course?  Or perhaps you would rather kick back in the confines of the resort, take a dip in the pool or indulge in a soothing sauna.

If you can only chill out for so long, don’t worry, as there are plenty of activities to keep you busy in both the Aegean and Mediterranean resorts. From waterskiing on the crystal blue sea, to playing tennis up in the Taurus Mountains, you won’t have a moment to spare.

That’s not all either, Turkey is often known as where the Middle East meets Europe because of the fusion of cultures and its geographical position. Why not soak up some of this atmosphere at the many markets and bazaars in the coastal towns?

Whatever you were hoping to get from a trip to Turkey, you’ll be able to see it, visit it, or do it during the summer season.

There are still things to see and do in Turkey throughout winter, but for a fantastic luxury holiday, try sticking to the summer months. If you’re unsure where to travel for the perfect summer holiday, take a look at Club Med’s all inclusive holidays to Turkey for some inspiration.
