James Clark of nomadicnotes.com Interview

Our travel interview today is from James Clark of nomadicnotes.com who is a traveller / Location Independent Business Owner.

Tell us a bit about yourself?
I am from Melbourne Australia and I work half of the year abroad. Most of my work is done online so so I don’t need an office.

When someone asks me what I do I usually say web designer for the sake of a simple title. Actually I have multiple jobs and projects on the go, including web designing, web development, travel writer, photographer and tourism marketing. In the offline world I also am developing a holiday apartment rental business.

So there are various job descriptions for each of my projects, but they all have the common theme of travel.

How did you get into traveling?
I went on my first overseas trip in 1995 (a week in Hawaii) and I got the travel bug immediately. I went to the US again in 2006 and 2007. Not satisfied with short trips I moved to the UK in 1999 on a working holiday visa as a means to base myself in Europe and travel.

What have been some of your most memorable experiences?
Having the chance to live overseas has been the best thing I have done. I lived in the UK for 2 years and Ireland for 1 year, and boths places enabled me to travel regularly, as well as give me a fresh perspective about what I wanted to do in my business life.

What are you doing now?
At the moment (Sep 2010) I am travelling in China for 2 months.

What websites do you run?

My personal travel website is at http://www.nomadicnotes.com/, and I also have numerous travel related websites. My latest project is Low Cost RTW (http://www.lowcostrtw.com/). It is a resource for flying “Round The World” using only low cost/budget airlines. I also provide advise for other travel sites regarding web promotion.

What tips would you give someone wanting to go traveling?
There is no right or wrong way to travel, but once you start travelling you will soon find out what the right way for you is.
