Why you should visit Tenerife

There are hundreds of great reasons to visit Tenerife, but I’m afraid there’s not enough room for me to list them all here! I’ve had to keep it to three main reasons – and surprisingly, none of them feature the typical 18-30’s clubbing experience heard so much about!

It is true that Tenerife is a great holiday destination if you want to party hard with your friends, and there are several great resorts to cater to that like Playa Americas and Costa Adeje, but they don’t even begin to show you all of the amazing things that Tenerife has to offer. Of course, even ignoring the nightclub culture in some of the coastal resorts, one of the main reasons people visit Tenerife so often is the amazing weather. Throughout the summer it’s hot and dry – perfect beach or poolside weather! – and it rarely rains. Even for those who prefer the weather a little cooler, Tenerife is an ideal destination. The winters are still mild, but less ferociously hot than the summer. That said, you do run the risk of getting rained on if you venture to Tenerife between January and March!

The weather ties in nicely with the second reason to visit Tenerife – the amazing, black volcanic sand beaches. While the sand may be a little gritty for some, sunbathing on black sand is a unique experience! The beaches are usually really well appointed too, even if you’re in the quieter north of the island around Puerto De La Cruz or the capital of Santa Cruz. Most beaches have lifeguards, as well as a cafe and/or a bar, and the more popular beaches have a host of water sports available. Tenerife has always been popular with scuba divers for the beautiful clear waters and fascinating wildlife, and while you won’t be able to dive from most of the beaches, a lot of the beaches have a harbour nearby where you should be able to get onto a diving trip, or even learn if you don’t know how!

One of the reasons people like to dive around Tenerife is also the final reason I’m going to give for you to holiday here. The amazing volcanic rock formations under the sea around Puerto De La Cruz are unlike anything else you’re likely to see under the water, and the strange alien landscape of Tenerife isn’t like anything you’ll see anywhere! The famous Lunar Landscape around Viaflor is a result of the volcanic activity which created Tenerife millions of years ago, and this weird and alien landscape is found throughout the island.

Elsewhere it might be covered by lush plant growth or plains, but around Viaflor you can see how truly strange and beautiful the landscape of Tenerife really is.

There are even more great reasons to holiday in Tenerife than these three, but you’ll have to visit to really find out!
