Stuart Foskett from Monarch Airlines Q&A on Berlin

Stuart Foskett from Monarch Airlines talking about his favourite city of Berlin.

Why do you love Berlin ?
The city has a great atmosphere and so much recent history albeit not good , but i find that extremely interesting . It’s also great to explore using the very good train/underground network with the fascinating and wonderfull old stations .

In 24 hours what must you do ?
If it is your first visit then i would recommend the hop on hop off bus around the sites . Although very touristy it does make a good way of catching the most important sites . Three sites situated together are the Reichstag Parliament building , Brandenburg Gate and the Holocaust memorial .

One thing not to miss in Berlin ?
The obvious really is the iconic Brandenburg Gate which is now restored and sits in front of the Tiergarten park which on a nice day makes a relaxing rest stop .

Insider Tips
For a fantastic view of the city try riding the train from The Zoologischer Garten station to Alexanderplatz . It’s worth it just for the ride from the old west to east passing all the sights .
The best area to see a large section of the remaining Berlin Wall is the East Side Gallery.

The guide books tell you the best shops are in the Kurfurstendamm area with KaDeWe hailed as the best department store . In my opinion the best store is the newly renovated Kaufhof Galleria situated in the East around the Alexanderplatz square . The best walking tours of Berlin i’ve found are from www.insidertour.com which are run by knowledgeable and enthuiastic guides. It’s worth going to Berlin just for these alone , tours include The Cold War , Third Reich and the Famous Insider walk.

I loved Berlin when I visited last year with my daughter – we were blessed with sunny spring weather and had a ball – you can read about our long weekend here
