In November of 1963, Walt Disney began scouting for new areas to build another theme park, purchased 22,443 acres of land near Orlando, Florida, and began developing what would become Walt Disney World.
Walt Disney World’s opening day was October 1, 1971; five years after lung cancer took Walt’s life. During the opening ceremony, Walt’s brother Roy O. Disney is quoted as saying, “Everyone has heard of Ford cars. But have they all heard of Henry Ford, who started it all? Walt Disney World is in memory of the man who started it all, so people will know his name as long as Walt Disney World is here.”
Since the launch of Walt Disney World, it has been visited by millions of families, each looking to share in Walt’s special brand of magic. The resort is comprised of many lodges, spas, and resorts, and even boasts a wedding pavilion for a truly special wedding everyone will remember.
