Makadi Bay in Egypt is a fairly new resort area that offers holidays in high quality accommodation in an area that’s famous for it’s year round sunshine, beautiful beaches, and the crystal clear waters of the Red Sea.
If you’re flying from the UK, direct flights to Makadi Bay take around five hours, so this peaceful paradise is within easy reach making it a wonderful destination for anyone looking for a relaxing break where they can enjoy sunning themselves on white sandy beaches, eating alfresco and seeing the sights.
The coral reefs off the shores locally are famous for being some of the best in the world, and Makadi Bay is an excellent place to learn to dive as it is sheltered and protected and there are lots of centres here who offer tuition. There are many other dive sites locally however that will suit divers of all levels of experience including Gotar Abu Ramada, Ras Abu Soma, and Giftun Island all of which are home to some superb marine life.
Although many people enjoy laying on the beach, anyone with an active streak is catered for too as there are plenty of lively sporting activities you can partake of. On the water you’ll find opportunites to try your hand at windsurfing, waterskiing, and sailing, while on land there are things such as horse riding, tennis, mini golf and volley ball going on.
Away from the beaches, more sand can be found in the surrounding deserts, but it’s far from boring out here. Camel rides are popular as is quad biking, or you could take a trip out to see a traditional Bedouin camp, or to see the stars at night away from the lights of the towns.
Most everyone will want to take a souvenir home with them, and for that the local centre at Makadi has boutiques and bazaars selling all sorts of things from perfumes and oils to alabaster statues. Haggling is common so be prepared to be expected to do this, however if it makes you too nervous there are some shops here who offer a fixed price tag.
Local nightlife is not wild, but there are a good number of bars, restaurants and discos to choose from if you want them, and you’ll find that open air dining is quite common here as the evenings are generally mild and pleasant.
Whether you’re holidaying with a young family, or as a couple, this is an area which has much to offer its visitors, and friendly family fun is the order of the day here.
