Walk the Brooklyn Bridge

This may become one of the most memorable parts of your trip to New York and best of all it is completely free. Be sure to travel across the bridge during fine weather as strong winds can make this unpleasant. It will take approximately one hour to explore the length of the bridge and you will be able to see all along the Manhattan skyline too.

Take a tour.

There are a wide variety of different places to tour with a huge variety of costs. You can visit the likes of the Rockefeller Centre which costs around $25 per person or you can visit the Conservatory Gardens in Central Park completely free. Visit on Saturday mornings at various times of year for a free tour. You can even tour the Federal Reserve Bank for free on Monday – Friday to check out some money so be sure to reserve in advance because this one is very popular.

Take a trip on the Staten Island ferry.

To get from Manhattan to Staten Island takes just 25 minutes and best of all it is completely free. You can enjoy cheap food and drink on board too if you choose to and when you arrive at your destination you will have seen some beautiful sights, snapped some wonderful photographs and been on the ferry that is so iconic as part of New York City.

Visit the Julliard School

Here you can see some of the best dance, music and drama students from around the World. You can obtain free tickets from the box office for selected shows so be sure to visit as soon as possible after you arrive to get the best selection of tickets. Famous guests are often tempted to visit here and a trip yourself will make it easy to see why.

Shop on Fifth Avenue

Now this last tip isn’t really for the budget conscious but if you’ve saved money on the rest of your activities why not treat yourself with some shopping on the World famous Fifth avenue. With designers from around the World you will be amazed by the fashions on offer and some of the prices too! With a World famous toy store, FAO Schwartz, the whole family will be entertained for hours on end. If you don’t want to spend a fortune then just enjoy some window shopping and be sure to tour from 34th right up to 59th street for some of the best window shopping. This is particularly special around Christmas time but from October onwards you will start to see the beautiful Christmas window displays that have feature in so many films.
