Alicante in Spain this Summer

Alicante, Spain is one of the most enjoyable and vibrant parts of Spain to visit. Being slightly less busy than the likes of Barcelona or Madrid makes it a relaxing place to visit with all the usual pull of tourist locations but also some beautiful sights to see that have been around for hundreds of years. Here are some suggestions of places to visit while in Alicante:

Santa Barbara Castle: With beautiful views of the Postiguet beach, Alicante City and the port you will be blown away here. If walking up steep steps isn’t for you there is an elevator that you can ride in here allowing you to enjoy the beautiful views on offer. Staying until the sun sets is a real recommendation as the views really are breathtakingly beautiful and will stay with you forever. If you are walking here in the height of the summer then bring lots of water with you as queues at the cafes can be long but the views alone make up for this.

Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Alicante (MACA): This art gallery is home to some of the works of the greatest Spanish artists of all time. This art gallery is housed inside a beautifully transformed building and what’s more entry is free. You will find portraits of lots of recognisable places from around Alicante which is fantastic and this really is a fantastic way to wile away an afternoon.

Santa Maria Church: Located in the Plaza Santa Maria this is the oldest church that still stands in Alicante city. This was finished during the 13th century and was rebuilt during the 15th century after a fire. The main doorway is beautiful with an image of the Virgin Mary and whether you are a religious person or not you will surely appreciate the beauty of this church and its surroundings. Saturday is one of the most popular days for visitors to this church as you will get to see the weddings here and get a taste of what life is like for the residents of Alicante.

Karting Alacant: If you are looking for something a little different for you and your family to enjoy then visit this karting circuit. It is easily accessible by car or taxi and there are a wide range of vehicles on offer for children and adults alike. More adventurous drivers will find bigger and faster karts on offer and whether you are a seasoned karter or just looking to try something different you’ll have a great time here with your family or on your own.

If you are looking to enjoy some of the lovely local cuisine on offer you will find that there are some amazing rice dishes to be sampled here. Made with meat, fish, seafood, chicken, rabbit, pork, vegetables and pulses make for an amazing blend of flavours. You can find amazing tapas restaurants here and some of the best to check out are Nou Manolin and Piripi as they have lovely fresh local produce on offer and their tapas dishes are amazing. You will be able to get a taste of some of the lovely food here from most restaurants and many of Alicante’s restaurants use local cuisine.

There is so much to see and do here and best of all there are often cheap flights to Alicante from Glasgow, London and many other UK airports available. This means that you can enjoy a relaxing holiday without breaking the bank. Look for flights at various times of the year to make savings and remember that there is much to see and do in Alicante. You’ll find yourself wanting to return year after year just to sample the delightful food!
