Alcudia – A Family Holiday Destination

Situated on the north west of Majorca a little over 50 kilometres from Palma, Alcudia has two main regions: The old town lying inland and on the coast Puerto Alcudia where most of the hotel complexes are.

The relaxed atmosphere in the north of Majorca makes Alcudia holidays ideal for families, and there are miles of clean golden sands here including the wonderful bay area with its warm shallow waters that are ideal for young children to splash around in. Hotels here are used to families and many are happy to provide you with a packed lunch so you can spend all day at the beach or out and about exploring the area.

The Hidropark is a great place to take kids. This fabulous waterpark has lots of different slides and chutes to suit different ages, and has six different pools including a wave pool, a beach pool and an infant pool designed especially with the little ones in mind. Just next door to it lies a 54 hole super golf course, and on site are restaurants, bars, a Euro Bungee, Mini golf cars and mini motor boats too so there’s plenty to keep you amused for a whole day.

Another firm favourite for family fun is the El Laberinto Maze fun park. Aimed specifically at kids and families this cleverly designed maze is made from wooden panels so that its layout can easily be changed around. More than just a maze, inside are lots of games to play like the memory game where you have to remember pictures as you try to make your way out. There are fun beasts hiding in the maze too like a water monster who will squirt you if you don’t run fast enough, and pirates who might help you chase the monsters off if you’re lucky. Because it is changed around regularly, this is a popular place not just with tourists, but also with local children too.

Within the Bellevue hotel complex is Racing Passion Karting. This is the largest and fastest karting track on the island and it’s run by an ex formula one promoter and racing driver. Open from 9 in the morning until well after dark this place is great with older kids and adults.

Alcudia old town two miles inland from the coastal resort area makes for an interesting day out. Parts of this town date back to around 1300, and the city walls are quite impressive. The best way to appreciate everything here is to take the 2 hour long walking guided tour which takes you around the town to see all the sights. It takes place every Wednesday at noon.

Overall this is a great area for a family holiday with lots to do and plenty of open beaches and gentle waters.
